Wow… what a crop year it’s been! We received more than our share of rain, hail and tornadoes, yet we’re seeing huge yields.
One Latham customer, farming bottom ground in Sloan, Iowa, yesterday harvested 62 bushels per acre with L3058 RR2 while a competitor’s variety only went 52 bu/A. That means his Latham soybeans just made him an additional $80 per acre than the competitive variety in this same field. If I had a 300-acre field – bringing in an additional $24,000 toward the bottom line – I’d think it was AWESOME! I also received a report from the Climbing Hill area in western Iowa that an 86-acre field of Latham’s LibertyLink® L3158L went 72 bushels across the scale at AGP.
There are a few corn harvest results that also amaze me. Last Saturday one field of with LH 5219 SS on sugar sand – with extreme heavy weed pressure due to all the rain this summer – averaged 175 dry. For sugar sand, that’s a big WIN! I’ve received multiple calls from customers Nebraska, as well some from farmers in the Bluffs, who have whole-field averages over 200 bu/A with average test weights. Many producers claim yields this could be better than last year.
With yields that are beating our expectations, this is one fun harvest season! But remember to stay safe. Nothing turns a great season into a bad one like an accident. Take care of yourselves and remember to share the road!
