Last weekend there a farm accident occurred when a combine overturned off a terrace that was undermined. Thank God nobody was hurt seriously, but we all must be conscious of our surroundings this fall as wetter-than-normal weather have caused washout conditions. We also need to be aware that the mud we drag from the field onto the road can cause some very slick conditions for motorists. Please take your time and be careful this harvest season!
With my public service announcement made, I’d like to share a few results from soybean harvest in western Iowa. Matt Topf of Sloan was very pleased with Latham(R) L3184 R2 on a piece of Blue Clay. Blue Clay soils are much stickier and even less forgiving than the gumbo soils that western Iowa is known for, so when I hear of reports of 62-bushel beans on these tough soils, I tend to get excited! This season I’m receiving multiple reports of the Latham soybeans delivering outstanding performance. Just check out Latham’s standing in the FIRST trials.
Corn harvest continues at a steady pace with multiple reports of reports of 200+ yields and better than expected moisture contents for the type of season we just went through.
