Ever have one of those days when everything you try to do goes wrong? Tuesday was that day for me!
The day started full of promise. I was pretty excited to be taking out a particular test plot to see how each Latham® Hi-Tech Soybean brand performed. The cooperator made the first pass and was working on the second when a side wall on the drive tire blew. Well what can you say… oh darn! After further inspection, the other drive tire had to be replaced because it had terrible cracks and a slow leak. The tire damage was caused from all the washouts bending tires in ways they were not intended earlier in the season.
To make matters worse, there was no place to dump the load because we had to wait for a truck to come. Did I mention this happened right next to the highway? It always does, right? People passing by us were honking and saying to themselves, “Sure glad that’s not me!”
By the time repairs were made and we were moving again, it was early evening. Fortunately, the soybean plot did very well. The highest yielding soybean was Latham 3158LL, and it went 55 bushels per acre. The producer was pleased but yet embarrassed about how long it took. But that’s farming, right?
I also took out a corn plot with Latham® Hi-Tech Hybrids LH 6255 performing like we expected at 207 bu/A and 16% moisture. This was a corn-on-corn plot in a very sandy clay loam field.
